A place to come back to
Loess Lakes Ranch began with a simple idea: to create a place where family and friends could step away from schedules, screens, and the noise of everyday life—and spend real time together.
When we found this remarkable stretch of the Loess Hills, it already had everything that mattered: rolling ridges, wooded trails, open grassland, abundant wildlife, and water at the center of it all. Across 300 private acres, there was room to explore, room to gather, and—most importantly—room to breathe.
Built with purpose
The goal was never to turn the property into a crowded resort. We wanted to bring the ranch back to life while preserving the quiet, privacy, and natural character that made it special in the first place.
The house was thoughtfully renewed, more than five miles of trails were opened across the property, and gathering spaces were created around the lake, the fire, and the outdoors. Modern comforts were added where they mattered, while the land remained the heart of the experience.
Why Loess Lakes
The name comes directly from the landscape. “Loess” honors the rare wind-formed hills that shape this part of Iowa. “Lakes” recognizes the water that gives the property its center and sense of calm. Together, they describe a place that could not exist anywhere else.
A quiet creative past
Long before it became Loess Lakes Ranch, the property was owned by a music producer and welcomed a number of well-known country artists. Shania Twain is among those who spent time here, drawn to the same privacy, natural beauty, and sense of escape that continue to define the ranch today.
We like knowing that before guests came here to disconnect, the land had already served as a quiet retreat for people whose lives were often spent in the public eye. It is an unexpected piece of the property’s history—and another reminder that this has always been a place to step away, slow down, and find inspiration.

Today, Loess Lakes Ranch is shared with just one group at a time. There are no shared grounds, crowded common spaces, or schedules to follow. Guests are invited to settle in, explore at their own pace, reconnect with the people beside them, and experience the same feeling that inspired us to create the ranch.
